Why is my home humid even with the AC on?
Air conditioners remove moisture only while the compressor runs and the coil is cold. An oversized unit cools the room quickly and switches off before it has removed much moisture. Fan settings that keep air moving over a wet coil can return moisture to the room. Humid outdoor air leaking in, cooking, showers and drying laundry indoors add more. Closed rooms, wardrobes and ground floors often stay damp while the rest of the home feels fine.
How do I reduce humidity in a Dubai home?
Work through these steps in order, and measure as you go:
- Measure first. Log humidity in each problem room for one to two weeks, so you know which rooms stay above 60% and when.
- Cut the moisture you add. Use extractor fans when cooking and showering, and avoid drying laundry indoors.
- Dry leaks fast. Fix leaks and dry wet materials within 24–48 hours, before mould can start.
- Check the AC. An oversized unit, or a fan setting that keeps air moving over a wet coil, can leave rooms damp. Ask your AC technician to check both.
- Add a dehumidifier where readings stay high. Size it to the room and keep relative humidity below 60%.
What humidity causes mould?
Mould needs moisture. Keeping relative humidity below 60% removes most of the conditions it needs. The US EPA notes that if wet or damp materials are dried within 24–48 hours of a leak or spill, “in most cases mold will not grow”.
Does a dehumidifier help in a villa?
Yes, when measurements show humidity staying above 60%. A dehumidifier removes moisture regardless of the AC cycle. Size it to the space: Stadler Form Lukas removes up to 20 litres a day for rooms up to 70 m², and Lukas Pro up to 50 litres a day for rooms up to 175 m².
